Note (3) Americus, Sumter County, Georgia; Americus Times-Recorder; Friday, July 30, 1971 Page 8: Mrs. Israel The graveside service for Mrs. Mamie Harris Israel, of Jacksonville, Fla., formerly of Sumter County, who died Thursday night in Jacksonville, is planned Sunday at 2:30 p.m. from Williams Cemetery near Smithville. The Americus Chapter No. 63, Order of Eastern Star, will conduct the rites. Mrs. Israel was a native of Roberta and lived in Sumter County many years, teaching in the Lee County school system prior to moving to Jacksonville. She was the daughter of the late James E. Harris and Mrs. Mamie Burnett Harris, and a member of the Order of Eastern Star and Baptist Church. She was the widow of David D. Israel. Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Pearl H. Usry, Jacksonville; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Anna Kearce, Americus, and Mrs. Bessie Nunnally, Atlanta; three brothers-in-law, R. A. Israel, Americus, J. F. Israel, Dawson, and Floyd Israel, Union City, Ga. Reese Park Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Note (4) The book "Dozen's of Cousins..." has David's DOB as 24 Nov 1890. His grave marker has 23 Nov 1889. Since his marker also lists him as a WW I veteran, the date of his marker is being used. Note (5) Block 15, of David's death certificate is marked Yes, World's War # 1. The unit indicated here, was obtained from his cemetery marker. Sgt Co C 403 Labor Bn QMC WWI. The dates indicated do not reflect the entire war; only the years the United States was a participant. Note (6) The date of burial has not been confirmed.
