Previously, when I was identifying a new photo,
I'd say this is the southeast side of the building.
Then I'd rush off to the next photo. Ok this is the
southeast side, but getting back to that function
thing from the current status screen, let's look at
function.
First of all notice the steps in the
image. Those steps will remain as my long-term
plans include placing a ferro-cement roof over the
roll roofing currently in place. The roof will
need to be self-supporting between the dome walls
and the outer walls. The existing roof will
serve basically as a form.
Next in the image
below, you can see how the holes cut in the
plastic around the window are cut in the shape of
an arch. That's because the windows are going to
be imbedded in cob and that will be the shape of the
opening in that cob wall. I have the plastic on the
outside so that if the weather is less than ideal
for cobbing I can build a fire on the inside and
still cob with out too much finger discomfort.
The
large dark open area in the center of the image
is where one of our wood burning stoves will be
placed. It's actually in place now and servers
as our only source of heat for the moment.
The plate glass windows on the left are two
1 1/5 ' x 6 ' pieces on either side of a 3' x 6'
foot piece of plate glass. All the windows and
glass was salvaged. The windows are basically
strapped in with the same scrape wood used in the
roof. The scrape wood is left over pieces from a
furniture factory. The rough buck frame of a door
is located on the right side of this image.
It leads into the kitchen/family room/hang out
area. I also plan on putting an outdoor
kitchen near this door.
