In early 1996, living in a suburban house with a two car garage and 2.2 children (OK it was two teenagers and two cats), my wife and I decided the American dream was not all what it is sold to be. It was time to grow both mentally and spiritually. Of course now that we are actually building, I realize that you grow physically as well. Digging that earth really builds muscles. Which was good because I was getting some what of a Buddha belly. We acquired 20 acres of land from my Father David Newberry and we packed up the family and headed to Mauk. Thus we have begun our odyssey of learning and living as well as building a new life and a new home. We have made the decision to not put ourselves in debt for 30 years. We have begun to think about our relationship to the land. On this journey we have met and will meet many interesting people. The information here is a collective knowlege. What you do and what you try adds to this knowledge. There is an old African saying "Experience is the best teacher". Don't forget to try out new ideas on a small scale. I've had my share of failures and it much better to test out a new idea before you go too far down a path. Take care and hope to hear from you.

Well when it comes to this part it I feel bit like Tom Sawyer but we do appreciate help. We have work weekends once or twice a month. Once evening hits we are not opposed to having a bit of fun as well. Now because the four of us are living in a one room trailer our accomidations consisit of camping if, you want to stay on the property. There are a couple of places to stay in town. These are not motels but more like bed and breakfast places. To find out more please either email or call us.
